Launceston City Council Works Depot

The Remount Road Depot is one of 3 waste facilities in the municipality’s north and north-east. Mendelssohn Construction were contracted to remove asbestos roofing material and asbestos rope textile to the windows and purlin replacement, as part of this contract a total of 2500m2 of asbestos materials were removed.

In order to complete the works with minimum risk to the health and safety the building was shut down to all general access and the building itself formed the exclusion zone for majority of the works, where external or complicated roof sections were being worked on outside then a 10-metre exclusion zone was established.

With the use of a decontamination unit facilitated the ease of operation of all asbestos removal. A 3-stage decontamination shower modular unit with a water management system filtered at 5 microns was constructed and maintained throughout the project, as the showers were stand alone, a transit route and negative pressured were built on for a clean change area.
