About The Project
This Tasmanian processing plant supplies some of the largest quantities of minerals to overseas clients and has done so since 1967, following a refurbishment in 1997 production rose from 1.5 million tonnes (Mt) per annum to 2.2 (Mt) in 1999, the processing plant has been operating consistently since and have been the receiver of environmental awards for their continued sustainability and management of the surrounding environment.
The scope of works was complex, requiring the removal of over 135 ton of friable asbestos from 5 levels each with a mezzanine included, in a short time frame without disrupting the 24 hour operations of the site.
Mendelssohn Construction were able to provide the services and skills to achieve the scope with in the agreed time frames whilst maintaining a safe work area for all employees with no interruption to the processing operations.
Some of these services included;
- Erection of scaffolding and assessment of access requirements to the section for removal;
- Construction of personal and material lock areas to removal system;
- Installation of vacuum system within enclosure and negative air unit in decontamination area;
- Clearance monitoring of encapsulation prior to dismantling and relocating;
- Daily air monitoring of entire building;
- 1 ton asbestos bags with multi lingual labelling for containment of asbestos upon removal;
- Top of the line asbestos decontamination unit installed on site.
