About The Project

A well-known part of the Hobart landscape – they are located on the Derwent estuary; they are one of the world’s largest producing zinc smelters with products being exported to global markets.

The scope of works was high risk requiring a level of expertise to ensure a safe environment for our workers and a quality result was delivered. Decommissioned mercury store was scheduled for demolition prior to the demolition commencing asbestos containing cement sheet cladding, super six roofing, and woven rope were to be removed from the northern section of the old mercury shed. Asbestos to be removed in staged sections from 1 end to the other utilising a combination of EWP from underside and roof top access via attached lanyards and rescue system.

Demolition of the low level structures was by a 20 ton excavator with shears attached, the use of oxy acetylene cutting was also used under permit works. Demolition of the high-level structures was by a 20-ton excavator, oxy acetylene cutting and a scissor lift.

Mendelssohn Construction were able to provide the services and skills to achieve the scope within the agreed timeframes whilst maintaining a safe work area for all employees and the public. Just some of these services included.
